Big Leaf

I have long been fascinated with the shape and structure of leaves of all kinds.  While walking in the fall,  I came across some very large leaves; I printed fabric with them and this was the start of a new series. The resulting quilts are mostly whole cloth, with the leaves taking center stage, enhanced by accidental patterns created by the printing tools and variable amounts of paint. The large hand stitching echoes the vein patterns of the leaves. In addition,  friends and family have found big leaves for the series. These leaves add an element of collaboration and spontaneity to my process since I don’t know what leaves will come along.
